The first model library in Tomsk

The first model library with ramps, modern computers and contactless book retrieval system was opened in Tomsk last week.

The  municipal library «Computer World» became the basic platform for its creation. This library was opened 20 years ago in one of the most populous  districts in Tomsk, where the dormitories of the city’s universities are located. The “Computer World” Library is popular place among students and local residents, only in 2018 it was visited about 25,000 times.

«The new model library is unique. It combines comfortable premises, modern equipment, the latest computer technology and an updated book collection. I am sure that it will become one of the favorite places for city readers», — said Pavel Volk, the head of the regional department of culture and tourism.

The main innovation of the library is the automated book retrieval system based on RFID-technologies and electronic library tickets. Now readers can get access to the federal state information system «National Electronic Library» and other resources of scientific and artistic content, various databases and digitized full-text documents.

According to Pavel Volk, six municipal model libraries will be opened in the Tomsk Oblast by the end of  2019. The libraries are to be established in Molchanovsky and Kozhevnikovsky districts, in Kislovka and Bogashevo.
