“Rough Guide” experts made a list of the top 100 places on the planet recommended to visit in 2020.
St. Petersburg is one of the Russian cities included in this list. It was described as a classical city with canals, beautiful palaces, numerous bridges, landscaped gardens and parks. Specialists highlighted not only its ancient urban architecture, but also the special spirit of the USSR, which can be felt thanks to the Stalinist neoclassical architecture of the Moscow district and the interactive Museum of Soviet Arcade Machines.
Apart from St. Petersburg, Tokyo, the Japanese capital, was included in the list of top 100 places. The authors of the guidebook think that it attracts travelers with advanced technologies, skyscrapers, show of alien robots, nightlife, gardens and Buddhist Sanctuaries. The “Rough Guide” list also includes natural landscapes, wildlife places, archaeological and popular sites such as the Red Square in Moscow, the equestrian statue of Genghis Khan in Mongolia, Halong Bay in Vietnam, the Alhambra Fortress in Spain, the Lofoten Islands in Norway, the Imperial Palace in Beijing and others.
