Interuniversity campus model for Russian cities

VEB.RF and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation are launching a project to create interuniversity campuses in seven university centers of Russia. As part of this project, the Strelka KB is conducting a series of studies to research the values and preferences of potential campus customers. Based on the results of this research, a guide to creating modern student campuses in Russian cities will be developed.

Students and residents of university centers may take part in the survey. It consists of questions about the most important objects on the campus territory. The authors are also interested in what services are lacking for modern students and how they see the development of transport infrastructure on the campuses.

Strelka KB experts will analyze student responses and global practices in developing university campuses. Based on the research results, a model of a modern student campus for Russian cities will be developed.

According to Varvara Melnikova, general director of the Strelka Institute, demand for places at the university campuses will grow. According to the federal project «Export of Education», by 2025 425 thousand foreign students will be studying full-time at Russian universities, which is more than one and a half times the value of 2020.

«Creating a comfortable living environment for students, young researchers and professors will meet the growing demand for places on campuses and new requirements to the quality of accommodation. Of course, students living in dormitories today have the best idea of what they lack in order to feel comfortable», said Varvara Melnikova.

Interuniversity campuses exist in the USA, Great Britain, India, Spain and other countries. Usually, they are located in areas with high transport accessibility. It is planned that such campuses will soon appear in Russian university centers.
