According to the Digital Quality of Life Index 2020 (DQL) report, prepared by experts of Surfshark VPN-service, Denmark topped the rating of countries with high Digital Quality of Life.

The top ten leading countries in the Digital Quality of Life Index, along with Denmark, includes Sweden, Canada, France, Norway, the Netherlands, the UK, Israel, Japan and Poland. Among countries with low digital quality of life are Algeria, Honduras, Pakistan, Nigeria and Guatemala.

A total of 85 countries with population of 6.3 billion or about 81% of the world’s population were surveyed in a study characterizing the Digital Quality of Life.

The following basic criteria were taken into account in determining the DQL Index for each country: quality and affordability of mobile and wired Internet, development and coverage of digital infrastructure, development and affordability of digital public services (digital state), level of cyber security and user data security. Each of the criteria is characterized by a number of parameters. For example, the speed of downloads and the sustainability of networks in the country influenced the assessment of the quality of the Internet.

The experts noted that all information in the study was taken from sources given by the UN, World Bank, International Telecommunication Union, United States Department of State, World Economic Forum, CNIL (Commission nationale de l’informatique et des libertés), UN University, International Development Research Center and websites such as Speedtest and Cable.
