Ministry of Construction of the Russian Federation has published a list of the best practices of improvement based on the results of the first year of the national project «Housing and Urban Environment». Theatre Park in Tomsk was included in the nomination «City Garden and Square as a place for rest and communication».
Theatre Park was accommodated in 2019 as a part of the program «Creation of a comfortable urban environment». The project was prepared by specialists from the Centre for Urban Environment Development of Tomsk Region.
“The initiators of the renewal of this public space were the citizens themselves, and we see how popular Theatre Park is among the Tomsk citizens”, said Evgeny Parshuto, the Deputy Governor for Construction and Infrastructure. “New approaches to design made it a universal place, accessible for the disabled”.
The variety of small forms in the renovated park allowed expanding the possibilities of the territory use. For example, seamless tile joints allow children to ride bicycles and scooters safely. Trails made from the terrace board create new routes. In the future, they will be complemented with sculptures of fairytale characters to create a «fairytale path».
In 2019, Tomsk region entered the top-20, taking 16th place in the rating of regions, made by Ministry of Construction of the Russian Federation following the results of the project «Formation of comfortable urban environment».
