Vienna became the greenest city in the world

Vienna has been declared the world’s greenest city by a Canadian-American consulting company.

The company, “Resonance”, analyzed the air quality, numbers of parks and access to public transport across the world’s most visited cities and ranked the cities, which was headed by the Austrian capital — Vienna. The top ten green cities in the world also included Munich, Berlin, Madrid, Sao Paulo, Manchester, Lisbon, Singapore, Amsterdam and Washington DC.

Researchers praised Vienna as the European benchmark for public transit, with almost half of the city’s population holding an annual transit pass. In addition, there is now a growing number of people who prefer cycling to public transport, thus avoiding crowds.

Vienna is not equally green in all city districts, but more and more international rankings are giving the Austrian capital high marks for its quality of life.
