The Best Cities for Expats

According to the annual InterNation’s Expat City Ranking, Taipei is the best city for Expats.

InterNation’s Expat City Ranking 2019 included more than 20,000 participants from 82 cities worldwide.

To qualify, cities needed at least 50 of their residents to rate more than 25 aspects of urban life, including leisure options, local politics, public safety, housing costs, local friendliness and career opportunities. All aspects were divided into subcategories, which were then used to create four indices: Quality of Urban Living, Getting Settled, Urban Work Life, and Finance & Housing.

Overall, Asian and European cities dominated the global top 10, though for different reasons. For example, the top-performing Asian cities earned high marks in terms of finance and housing while the top European cities performed well in quality of life measures.

Taipei (Taiwan) was ranked first. Its affordable and quality health care, good work-life balance, transportation and local friendliness all contributed to it clinching the first place spot for the second year in a row. Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) was ranked second, followed by Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Singapore, Montreal, Lisbon and Barcelona.
