The General Assembly of Universities of the Third Age will be held at National Research Tomsk State University

The International Association of Universities of the Third Age is discussing the possibility to hold a General Assembly at National Research Tomsk State University (TSU), where experts from around the world will talk about the improvement of quality of life for older people.

The Assembly is scheduled to take place in 2022. National Research Tomsk State University is currently the only representative of Russia in this organization. It is planned that TSU will become a coordinator of the association in Russia.

At the end of 2016, Tomsk State University became a member of the International Association of Universities of the Third Age (AIUTA). This is an association of universities in Europe, Asia and America that work with older people. The “Open University” represents TSU in this organization. It conducts lectures and educational seminars for Tomsk residents on various topics.

Classes for people of the third age are an important area of work for the “Open University”. Organizers have noticed that a certain group of people attends the classes. This group comprises active elderly people.

Currently, “Open University” is participating in a regional educational project aimed to improve the quality of life of older people — “Tomsk Academy of Active Longevity”. As part of the project, the “Open University” has organized the School of Psychological Health, the School of Modern Horticulture, and the School of Foreign Languages where older people can learn English, gardening in Siberia, and participate in psychological trainings.
