The consortiums headed by “Citymakers” (Russia) and “KARRES EN BRANDS” (Netherlands) have become the finalists of the Open International Competition for the best architectural and urban development projects for the territories of the central part of Saratov municipality.
The consortiums have created architectural and urban development projects for the territory of the former Saratov Central Airport, the memorial complex «Victory Park» on Sokolov Hill, Green Island, Glebuchev Gully and Pokrovskie Sands Island.
The developed projects include major planning, landscaping and transport solutions.
The consortium, led by the Russian bureau “Citymakers”, includes “Arteza” (Russia), “Megabudka” (Russia), the Faculty of Biology at Saratov State University and the Transport Design Studio (Russia). The consortium, led by Netherlands bureau “KARRES EN BRANDS”, includes bureaus “MANDAWORKS” (Sweden) and “KOSMOS” (Russia).
«The open international competition is an important event not only for Saratov, but for Russia as a whole. Such large-scale projects arouse interest in the international professional community, which is proved by the fact that 67 teams from 24 countries have applied for the competition.
At the first qualifying stage, the teams’ portfolios have been evaluated, and five participants have been identified. The developed concepts have been reviewed anonymously by a professional jury. As a result, two finalists have been chosen – a consortium led by the Russian bureau “Citymakers” and the Netherlands bureau “KARRES EN BRANDS”, whose projects have been recognised as the best. It is up to the residents to decide which concept will win and be proposed for implementation,» says Anton Finogenov, Deputy CEO of the “DOM.RF” Foundation.
The international competition has been held by order of the Russian government under agreement on cooperation in development of the Saratov region between the Foundation «DOM.RF» and administration of Saratov, Saratov, Tatischevsky and Engelssky districts. The operator of the competition is “KB Strelka”.
