Suzdal Spatial Development Strategy

Specialists from KB Strelka, upon the initiative of the HOME.RF Fund, have developed a strategy for the spatial development of Suzdal. The document defines the key directions of the city development until 2030. However, the first part of the changes is planned to be completed by 2024, when Suzdal will celebrate the millennium since its foundation.

By this date, it is planned to restore the Kremlin and temples in the historical center and make the city more comfortable for residents.

Outside its tourist part, Suzdal is an ordinary small town with typical problems. At the moment, about 85% of small businesses work in trade, catering and hotel business. At the same time, the service sector in the residential zone is poorly developed.

The city should become most comfortable for residents and remain attractive for tourists. The strategy involves not only the preservation of cultural heritage sites and development of tourist infrastructure, but also the development of new educational institutions, small business support and renovation of civil engineering infrastructure.

By 2024 Suzdal Kremlin, Spaso-Evfimiev Monastery, Museum of Wooden Architecture, merchant court and other objects will be restored.

It is also planned to build a new school, a college building, a hotel, a walking route along the river, a city amphitheater, to reconstruct a city park and the Old Street, and open a leisure center for residents.

The strategy has been developed over an eight-month period. Over 40 leading experts in protection of cultural heritage sites, engineering, transport, demography and town planning documentation have participated in preparing the document.
