“Golden Ring of Siberia” is a New Local History Route

On August 16, the first expedition following a new route “Golden Ring of Siberia” (“Discover Siberia”) started from the Regional Museum of Local Lore in Tomsk.

Experts, including organizers, journalists, logisticians, video and photo operators, became participants of the “pilot” excursion. They will map a new tourist route and open it for travelers.

This route will include 11 regions and will last for 15 days. Key stops of the route are Tomsk — Novosibirsk — Biysk — Belokurikha — Manzherok — Chuyozi — Aktash — Balykcha — Artybash — Turochak — Sheregesh — Novokuznetsk — Abakan — Kyzyl —

Krasnoyarsk — Shushenskoye — Irkutsk — Listvyanka — Slyudyanka — Ulan-Ude — Tomsk. According to the authors, this tour was inspired by bus tours in Europe, when you spend the whole day doing sightseeing, and in the evening you rest at the hotel.

It was reported earlier that in 2018 the Tomsk branch of the Russian Geographical Society won the Grant of the President of the Russian Federation in the amount of 6 million rubles for the development of the part of the Golden Ring of Siberia local history route in the Tomsk Region. As a result a tourist route with convenient transport logistics between the Siberian regions will be built. The length of the route will be about 10,000 kilometers.

— “All types of transport, hard-to-reach areas and a lot of national color and peculiarities. Our goal is to attract foreign tourists. We want to dispel the myth of the wild taiga and get them acquainted with the Tomsk region”, says Yulia Kalyuzhnaya, executive director of the Tomsk branch of the Russian Geographical Society.

According to the deputy head of the Department of Economics of the Tomsk Region Administration Alexander Solovyov, the trip starts and finishes in Tomsk. Here, tourists will see National Research Tomsk State University, find out the history of the Tomsk province, see the wooden architecture and visit the Semilujensky ostrog (wooden fort). In total, tourists will spend in Tomsk one day and a half.

Currently, the project of the tourist route is in the testing stage and it will be available for tourists in 2021.
