Scientists of The Laboratory of High-Hume New Media Technologies of National Research Tomsk State University (TSU) conducted the study to evaluate social space and to determine quality of life at a university campus

Scientists of The Laboratory of High-Hume New Media Technologies of National Research Tomsk State University (TSU) conducted a series of surveys among students and employees of TSU within the frame of project “The Organization of Social Spaces as a Condition for the High Quality of Human Life in the Digital Era: an Interdisciplinary Approach”.

The aim of this research was to exposure the characteristics of «space 4.0» in the main university locations and to determine quality of life, lifestyle of students and employees of TSU campus.

Analysts asked some interesting questions about the key features of lifestyle, emotions, feelings, associations with the places of the university campus, about proposals for increasing the comfort in the campus.

Experts found out, that self-education and a healthy lifestyle, outdoor activities and travel, sports and recreation, healthy eating and diets effect on the quality of life of people, who study and work at the university. At the same time, weather conditions no almost effect on students and staff lifestyle.

According to the results of survey, the main building of TSU, the Research library and the University Grove are in the list of the most attractive and favorite places in the student campus. These places are associated with the historical classical image of the university and its constancy; its also evoke a sense of pride.

The building of additional coworking zones, the expansion of networks of public spaces on the campus territory are the main proposal received from students and university staff.

According to the researchers, the results of these polls will be
complemented by expert interviews and visual inspections of places. It will allow to modernize the university campus for improving quality of life of university audiences, for humanizing space and for creating new digitalized “spaces 4.0” on the territory of TSU.
